From large pharma to specialized biopharmas, the pharmaceutical industry continues to extend and expand the product life-cycle into new areas to optimize ROI. Despite this objective, a gap remains in the ability to deliver knowledge and insight to the key stakeholders on new indications and opportunities that have a molecular mechanistic rationale that can be built upon.
It is significant that major Pharma is directing 50-60% of its pipeline to new uses of existing drugs, as repositioning or lifecycle extensions.
Systematic drug repositioning and lifecycle extension is a major Biovista strength. We typically uncover at least 2-3 significant new indications for existing drugs or drugs in development. We also screen these new indications for prior art, so that they are free of patent filings or issued patents, and also papers in the literature or in conferences. This adds to the business competitive advantage of our work for our partners.
In addition to offering this as a service for our partners, we use our technology to reposition drugs that are on the market or that are generics in new, previously unpatented indications for our own business purposes. To date, we have identified plausible and patentable new applications for 28 major Pharma drugs to date, targeting over $20 Billion of potential new markets, if developed.
